Αρχαία Θήρα

Αρχαία Θήρα

Located high on Messavouno mountain, Ancient Thera offers breathtaking views of the Aegean Sea and the beaches of Kamari and Perissa below. This archaeological site contains ruins from the Hellenistic, Roman, and Byzantine periods, including temples, a theater, and ancient gymnasiums. The climb to the top is steep but rewarding, offering a panoramic perspective of the island. You can walk through the ancient streets and see the carved stones and foundations of a once-thriving city. The wind at the top is refreshing, and the silence of the ruins is a nice break from the busy towns. It is best suited for hikers and history lovers who enjoy spectacular scenery. The site provides a deeper understanding of Santorini's post-volcanic history.

Visitor tips
