Located on a peninsula jutting into West Lake, Phu Tay Ho is one of Hanoi's most popular spiritual sites. It is dedicated to Mother Goddess Lieu Hanh, one of the four immortals in Vietnamese mythology. The site is especially busy on the first and 15th days of the lunar month when locals come to pray for luck and prosperity. The temple complex is beautifully decorated and offers stunning views over the lake. Outside the gates, you can find many stalls selling 'Banh Tom' (shrimp cakes), a local specialty of this area. The atmosphere is vibrant, filled with incense and the sound of traditional music during ceremonies. It is a great place to witness the living religious traditions of Hanoi's residents.
