Ακρόπολη της Ρόδου

Ακρόπολη της Ρόδου

Located on the hill of Monte Smith overlooking Rhodes Town, the Acropolis of Rhodes dates back to the Hellenistic period. Unlike many other acropolises, it was not fortified but consisted of a massive zone of temples and public buildings. The most striking remains include the partially restored Temple of Apollo with its soaring columns and the ancient Olympic Stadium where athletic competitions were held. Adjacent to the stadium is a small marble theater once used for lectures and performances. The site is open and park-like, offering panoramic views of the Aegean Sea and the Turkish coast in the distance. It is a fantastic spot for a late afternoon walk when the golden hour light illuminates the ancient stones. It provides a sense of the scale and grandeur of Rhodes during its ancient peak.
