Ιαλυσός

Ιαλυσός

Ialyssos is the second-largest town on Rhodes and boasts a rich history as one of the three ancient city-states of the island. The old village center, located away from the modern beach resorts, features neoclassical mansions and traditional houses. The main square is dominated by the Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, which has a very impressive carved iconostasis. Visitors can explore the narrow streets to find local bakeries and traditional workshops. The area has a more 'local' feel than the tourist-heavy Rhodes Town. It is a great place to see how modern Greek life blends with historical settings. The town is also famous for its annual 'Ialyssia' festival, though major events usually occur later in the summer.
