Cave of the Apocalypse

Located halfway between the port of Skala and the town of Chora, the Cave of the Apocalypse is where St. John the Evangelist is said to have received his visions from God. The cave is now enclosed within a small sanctuary and monastery complex. Inside, visitors can see the triple crack in the rock through which the voice of God spoke, as well as the spot where the saint rested his head. Despite its small size, the site carries immense historical and religious weight. The interior is dimly lit and filled with the scent of incense, creating an aura of mystery and reverence. It is a central part of the Patmos experience. Visitors often find the quietude and the historical context very moving.
