Église Saint-Étienne-du-Mont

Église Saint-Étienne-du-Mont

Located on the Montagne Sainte-Geneviève near the Pantheon, this church is home to the only surviving rood screen (jubé) in Paris, a stunningly carved white marble lace-like bridge. It contains the shrine of Saint Genevieve, the patron saint of Paris, and the tombs of famous figures like Blaise Pascal and Jean Racine. The architecture is a unique blend of Flamboyant Gothic and Renaissance styles, resulting in a soaring, light-filled interior. Music lovers will appreciate its magnificent 17th-century organ, which is one of the finest in the city. The church gained modern fame as the location of the 'time-travel' steps in the film Midnight in Paris. It offers a much more intimate and spiritually resonant experience than the nearby Notre Dame.
